The catastrophic great flood of the South Platte River on June 16, 1965, destroyed and damaged 25 Columbine homes. Renovation of the golf course and the adjacent homes was rapid, new trees were planted, and a successful PGA tournament was held in a serene and beautiful setting in 1967. In 1973, the Divot Diggers, Columbine’s women’s garden club, donated $3,150 raised through bake sales and garage sales to the Country Club’s post-flood tree replacement goal of $10,000.
