EMERALD ASH BORER

Denver Forestry Inspector Paul Cancik reports preserve mature trees can be preserved and new trees planted to help grow our urban canopy, diminish heat islands, and combat the arrival of Emerald Ash Borer. Sprinkler irrigation and natural moisture are not consistent enough in Denver to meet trees’ irrigation needs. Regardless of the tree’s age, a tree in a non-irrigated area needs 10 gallons of water per week per inch of trunk diameter. That’s a significant amount of water when you consider that a two-inch diameter tree requires 20 gallons of water per week.
