The Colorado State Forest Service recommends that the first step to protecting your trees from EAB is to know if your trees are ash or not. Key attributes are: Compound leaves with 5 to 9 leaflets, leaflets buds and branches growing directly opposite from one another, and it has diamond-shaped bar ridges on mature trees. The peak season for EAB is mid-June and early July.
