As urban areas are built up, the rain falling on them runs off rooftops and paved areas into storm sewers that carry it away. Instead of falling onto open ground, where it’s filtered by soil and plants, it typically flows through the sewers directly into a nearby river or stream, carrying pollutants such as oil and chemical products along with it.
Healthy soil not only benefits turf and plant growth, it saves water, too! It works so well, in fact, that Denver Water requires that any landscaping of new construction must conform to its standards for soil amendments in order to conserve water in the areas it serves.
Summers in Colorado are short enough without spending hours tending to trees and shrubs. Wouldn’t Dad rather be relaxing in the beautiful Colorado outdoors than working in the yard pruning and trimming?
